Car came with both sets of lights. Can’t decide which ones I like more. Both are OEM Hella units, so whatever set I don’t choose I can sell for a decent price.
Also, I got a thingie:

Most I see out on the road nowadays have the clear tail lights.
If you want to be unique, the amber ones, If you want a clean and mean look, the clear ones.

E39 should have clear tails.. no doubt.

Always preferred Amber. Clear for some reason (to me) invokes altezza.

Why would you replaced OEM Celis with stock pre-facelift ones?

OOOooOooOOOO “etched glass” look. Do we have a picture of what it looks like in real life? This could work for me.

Post facelift every time. Makes it look so much more modern.

Amber, they’re more functional and have a nicer color transition for the reverse light.

Clear every time. I don’t like the ‘jaffa’ look. Replace the amber bulb for chromed amber bulbs to remove the ‘yolk’ effect to give a clear crisp look.
Before is the ‘yolk’ effect which is the amber of the bulb reflected around the lense.
After is a chromed amber bulb which flashes amber but is chromed silver when not in use.

People usually update pre-facelift cars to get a less dated look. I’d recommend to keep them and replace the headlights with hella angle eyes instead, should you find a reasonably priced set. Takes several years off the car.

The car has the optional Xenons. They cost $700 per side. I have no intention of changing the headlights.
